What's your skin type?
Most people will have a pretty clear idea on what their skin type is. You notice if you feel particularly dry or oily. Your skin type is what you are born with and doesn’t change.
But how do you really tell?
Here are a few tips to get you started.
If you suspect you are dry:
Your pores will be small, barely visible. You will feel like you can’t leave the bathroom without moisturising after cleansing and your skin will be prone to dry patches.
If you suspect you are oily:
Your skin will feel heavy and greasy constantly. It will shine and sometime be prone to breakout. If your skin is kept very clean you can minimise the break outs. Pores will appear large and get congested easily.
If you’re somewhere in between:
This is combination skin. The area around your nose, forehead and chin are prone to be oily while your cheeks are dry. Your pores over the nose and possibly forehead will also be on the larger side, but on your cheeks they’ll be invisible. This is a classic t-zone combination skin, try using balancing creams to even this out.
This is actually the rarest form of skin type. A true sensitive skin is a peaches and cream complexion with cheeks that burn from the inside after even small amounts of activity, such as walking. You'll know because your skin has always been like this, and be easily irritated. Using natural and calming products will help put this fire out and allow your skin to function without drying out or becoming even more irritated. Especially avoid face cleanses with stripping sulphates. Opt for a gentle cream based cleanser.
Now these are vast and varied and they impact how your skin behaves at the time. Conditions can be anything from acne to sensitivity and everything in between. Conditions will change over time and the best news is, they are totally treatable! Common skin conditions include:
Uneven tone and texture
Excessive dryness or oiliness in patches
With correct skin care mixed with supporting your body from the inside, all of these common conditions can be address and fixed.
