It's the most common scenario - you're face flares up with acne or other skin complaints and you rush to your favourite beauty store to stock up on the latest skin care. Or maybe you've been bamboozled by what you've seen pop up in your Instagram feed. But, healthy glowing skin, must be managed form the inside out.
Skin conditions, such as acne, are a symptom, not a diagnosis. Trying to heal acne by focussing on the skin is not going to yield permanent, glowing results.
Yes, absolutely, some treatments may reduce acne in the short term or reduce that red inflammation, but sooner or later you will have to deal with acne again – such as when your skin becomes sensitised to your skincare products or you decide to stop your medication.
My approach is different – I want to empower you to heal your body and get rid of your skin conditions for good. I want you to realise that healthy glowing skin begins on the inside.
All acne is a sign of an imbalance, but some acne signals a deeper imbalance than others. There are 4 signs that indicate that acne absolutely needs some internal healing – and focussing on skincare and medications will only temporarily reduce the symptoms and ultimately waste your time, energy and create unnecessary emotional trauma.
Here are the 4 signs that acne must be healed from the inside out:
- Acne is cystic. Cystic acne is deep and painful, and caused by somthing other than poor skin care. It's often a sign there is underlying inflammation in the body that needs to be addressed. Topical skin care can help reduce some of the redness, but the internal inflammation needs to be managed. Here's a useful guide to managing inflammation.
- Acne appears around your period. If you've noticed your acne gets worse around your period, then you have to start thinking about how hormones are influencing it. Hormones can affect the skin in many ways which you can read more about here. Approach the skin from the inside out, by reducing inflammation, balancing insulin levels, managing stress and supporting detoxification to assist balancing the hormones.
- Body Acne. When acne pops up on your chest and back, things are going on in the inside that must be addressed. It's often a sign of an imbalanced microbiome and dysregulated insulin levels. Learn some ways to manage back acne here.
- You have gut issues and acne. There's no denying a very strong link between the gut and the skin – the microbiome. The microbiome is a community of trillions of microbes that are essential to our health. In fact, an imbalanced microbiome is responsible for up to 90% of all chronic diseases! Gut issues are usually fairly obvious – gas, constipation, diarrhoea, bloating – and when they appear in conjunction with acne there is usually a connection. Heal your gut, heal your skin. I can't stress this enough!
Remember, skin conditions, such as acne, are a sign that there is an imbalance in the body and must be addressed in order to improve overall skin health. If this resonated with you, feel free to send me a message, I'd love to hear from you.
