HOW TO GET MORE OUT OF YOUR MOISTURISER

Applying moisturiser seems like one of those things that doesn’t require a ton of thought right? We pop a bit into our hands, slather it on our faces and go about our day.

What if I told you there are ways to reap more benefits from your moisturiser? For all that money you spend on your skincare routine, you should be getting the most out of it, right? Check out these tips on how to maximise your moisturising experience.

Layer upon layer

They say two heads are better than one. Well, we say two (or more) skincare products are better than one. No matter how amazing and effective your moisturiser might be, you’ll get the most functionality out of it by pairing it with an equally powerful serum. Make sure you’re getting the best possible moisture by throwing on a targeted hydrating serum before you slather on the moisturiser. This is especially important for those with ultra-dry and/or mature complexions!

Timing is everything

Make sure you are applying your moisturiser at optimal times. We know what you’re thinking: What the heck does that mean? What’s an optimal time? Well, there are definite times that the skin best absorbs moisture. After you shower or wash your face, for example is a great time to throw on your moisturiser. Do not apply your cream on wet, dripping skin as it will slide right off. Instead, apply it after you’ve cleansed, and toned when your skin will still be moist and able to lock in that product.

Use the right amount

Not too little, not too much...just the right amount. Serving size can vary depending on your skin type and face shape, but best rule of thumb is making sure you’re able to rub in all of your product (if it won’t fully absorb, you’re using too much!). So start with a small amount, and build as needed until your face and neck are good to go.

Don't forget the neck

Many of us are guilty of stopping our skincare routine at the jawline, and we’re here to shed some light on that VERY common beauty blunder. One of the most important places to keep hydrated and healthy is also the most commonly neglected: the neck. The skin around the neck and décolletage (favourite word ever!) is thin and pretty fragile and therefore most susceptible to dryness and damage. I neglected my neck for years and I am paying for it.  IDo some damage control by making sure you’re working your moisturiser onto your your neck and chest area. Trust us, your neck will thank you.

Pick the right one

Everyone’s skin needs are different, so one moisturiser does not necessarily fit all. Make sure you are picking out the correct moisturiser for your skin type to ensure you’re getting the maximum benefits. Otherwise you might find yourself with some unnecessary skin problems on your hands! Need some help? We've created a simple three step regime to clear skin.
